On Thursday 4th March Liberty HR Recruitment is lucky enough to be hosting a rescheduled talk on suicide in the workplace by Carrie Birmingham, HR Consultant and former HR Director of News UK. Carrie had originally been booked to speak for us last April but the arrival of the global coronavirus pandemic meant that we had to postpone this event.
Carrie partners with organisations to resolve complex and messy problems. Drawing on her research about responding to extraordinary events, she supports clients when events threaten employee metal health or resilience is tested. Carrie is known for not being your ‘typical HR type’ – which certainly sounds intriguing – as well as being a pragmatic and clear thinker.
As previous HR Director for News UK, Carrie gained a vast experience of employee trauma and this included several suicides. Given the current challenges of a global pandemic, we have asked Carrie to talk to us about:
1 What is it actually like when you have a suicide in an organisation
2 What she learnt about “handling” a suicide within an organisation.
3 Grief, fear and shame: the employee responses to suicide and the healing conversations they evoke.
4 The wider ripples for mental health and resilience that a suicide can prompt
